How many times have we thought of giving up on our dreams? How many times have you  said this is just too hard and, I am tried of being financially & emotionally drained. Your get up and go has left you.

When you think of quititng, remember the story of George Frideric Handel, he was a musical prodigy. At twenty-one he was a keyboard virtuoso. When he turned to composing he gained immediate fame and soon was appointed Kapellmeister to the Elector of Hanover (later King George I of England). When Handel moved to England his renown grew. By the time he was forty he was world famous. But despite his talent and fame he faced considerable adversity. Rivalry with English composers was fierce. Audiences were fickle; sometimes they didn’t turn out for his performances. He was the victim of the changing political winds. Several times he found himself on the verge of bankruptcy. His problems were compounded by failing health. He suffered a stroke which left his right arm limp and damaged the use of four fingers in his right hand. Although he recovered, it left him battling depression.

Finally, at fifty-six, Handel decided it was time to retire. Discouraged, miserable and consumed with debt, he felt certain he’d land in a debtor’s prison. So on April 8, 1741, he gave what he considered his farewell concert. Disappointed and filled with self-pity, he gave up. But that year something incredible happened. A wealthy friend named Charles Jennings encouraged Handel by visiting him and giving him a libretto based on the life of Christ. The work intrigued Handel, so he began writing. Immediately the floodgates of inspiration opened. For three weeks he wrote almost nonstop. Then he spent another two days creating the orchestrations. In twenty-four days he had completed the 260-page manuscript of The Messiah.

Thanksgiving kicks off the traditional holiday season.  I believe that Thanksgiving is when families get together and reflect on their blessings and, on those that are less fortunate.

Whether you believe in the war or not; military duty is the ultimate form of giving back.

Giving to other seems to happen more during this time of the month, but there are others that give ALL year long.

With the current economical situation, and with over 1 million people are unemployed; I want to do my part by giving back.  My ultimate experience of giving back was last year for a homeless shelter. The opportunity to serve dinners, reminds me of the original Thanksgiving dinners, was it was a place for strangers to meet and shares the bounty of the Harvest.

Security Tip # 3  What is an MBI?

MBI stands for Minimum Background Investigation. The MBI consists of a National Agency Check (NAC) which is a search of investigative files and other records held by federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM); a credit search; written inquiries; and record searches covering specific areas of a subject’s background during the past five years. Telephone inquiries are made on selected employments, whenever initial inquiries are not returned and information is needed to resolve an issue(s).

What is a Single Scope Background Investigation often called – SSBI

An SSBI is a more detailed investigation and is required for a TS investigation. It includes a review of the applicant’s national and local records and an interview with an investigator.

According to the 2010 Security Clearance Jobs Salary Survey, nearly 60% of security-cleared professionals received an increase in compensation in the past year with California topping the list as the highest-earning place for security-cleared jobs.  We already know that professionals holding security clearances enjoy salaries that are $5,000 to $10,000 more than the average employee and this survey shows that the salary continues to rise—despite our tough economic times.

 It’s no surprise to find that professionals holding higher security clearance receive higher compensation and often record the greatest frequency of receiving an increase, but what I did find interesting about this survey is that 62% of respondents are satisfied with their present careers–for cleared human resources professionals, IT program managers and telecommunications engineers that job satisfaction percentage tops 70%.  These statistics—while a slight decline from last year’s survey—are much higher than what many studies are showing for overall job satisfaction for American workers.  As the 2009 survey stated, “…satisfaction may simply be security-cleared professionals recognizing the coveted stability their status affords them, in conjunction with continued solid demand for their services.” 

 During a time when finding good news about the job market is hard to find, it’s refreshing to see at least one industry is not only continuing to see an increase in salary, but job satisfaction continues to be above the national average as well.
